Tree Pose

I was out tonight for a trip to the Grove City Walmart and of course had to take a pit stop at the park! It was dusk and the lamps around the pond were on setting up a beautiful golden glow. This is just one of the couple photos I took tonight. I titled it tree pose because I ventured into the yoga world tonight. I did an hour of beginners yoga, looked out my inner eye, and lit my heart on fire, and took the tree pose. Hope you enjoy!

Shirts for a Cure

This is a photo of my momma and her twin sister (aka my aunt). My aunt was diagnosed over the summer with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. She has been fighting hard through chemo for months and she only has one left! She is inspiration to our family. I hate being at school because I don't get to see her as much as I would like to. But I'll tell you one thing, she is always on my mind. I love our family because when one person fights, we all do. I love the quote "There would be no passion in this world if we never had to FIGHT for what we LOVE" by Susie Switzer. Our family loves before anything else so it is no surprise that we will fight for what we love. I recently found a website called Shirts for a Cure where bands give a design to this foundation that no one else has and they sell them to raise money for women who can't afford breast cancer treatments. The shirts are on average $14. I'll post the site at the end of this post and I hope you check it out! Fight On Aunt Kar and all the others battling!!

This is ME

Alee Renee. Born and raised in Punxsutawney, Pa, I'm a small town girl who loves trees, dirt roads, friends and family. I am currently enrolled at Slippery Rock University where I am majoring in Physical Education and Health and I also play volleyball, just one of my passions. Photography, my newest found passion, is what this blog is going to be all about. I started about a year ago with my dad's 35 mm Minolta camera and just purchased a new Nikon D3000 this past summer. I loved working with the 35 mm SLR but it is much more convenient to work with my new D-SLR. I plan on uploading some of my favorites from my photo shoots that I try to go on about once or twice a week. I have a lot of learning to do but I am pretty proud of the some of the moments I have captured so far. The photograph along with this post is one I recently took at a bridge on a back dirt road that I found on a drive one day. I messed around with the color and exposure a little on my computer to get the black and white affect. I liked the original photograph but I think the new affects give it a mysterious look. Long Lost Time

I haven't used this blog for a really long time. I spoke of using it as a photography blog but never got around to doing so. I am working toward turning it into one now. So check out my photographs and let me know what you think-good or bad.

35mm Film SLR Camera vs D-SLR Camera

Just recently I found my dad's old Minolta 35mm SLR camera. It is my new pride and joy! I absolutly love it. I've never been very involved with photography in the past. I mean I take pictures with a digital camera that is less than good quality and its mostly of just friends being wild, but with this camera I feel like I can do so much more. I try to capture moments of beauty in my eyes as corny as that sounds. I love the different features that I can mess around with like shutterspeed and apperture. It's definitly a fun new hobby that I've found. But the problem is the world of technology has spoiled me. With a digital camera you can take the photo, review it, put it on your computer, tamper with it, and come out with a completely different picutre than what you started with. With a 35mm camera, you take a picture and hope that you had your settings right, you didn't move the camera, and that it's a clear picutre. Then you have to wait until your film roll is done and take it to somewhere that can develop them which is a difficulty in itself to find someone who still develops it. Some people get them developed into prints but with that you get prints that may have turned out awful or you just don't like them and it's rather expensive to get just one roll developed. I like to have them put my pictures on a cd so that I can put them on the computer and toy with them and then have the ones that I like printed. It's cheaper this way too. But not as cheap and convenient as having a Digital D-SLR camera. Although they pose to be steep in price, they appear to be a better photography buy in the long run. In the future I would like to look into purchasing one of these cameras but as for now I'm quite happy with my 35mm film camera. After this assignment is over I plan on using this blog as a photography blog where I'll post my recent photos that I've taken. So keep scoping out my blog and let me know what you think!

Geocaching

My cousin introduced me to this thing called Geocaching at our Easter family gathering. He told me that you could go to the website, put in your zip code and it would spit out different GPS coordinates of these "caches" around you. These caches are little things that people put at the different coordinates and people can go find them. My cousin said he found one and it was a box that you could sign your name in and either put something in it or take something out of it. It's so neat what you can do with a GPS. Health Topic: Breast Cancer

For a few of my projects in Tech I have used breast cancer as my health topic. Just recently for my Biology class I had to find an article for a writing assignment and I found one regarding women getting a mastectomy. A mastectomy is the removal of the breast. This article was from Time Magazine and was saying that they did a study and that having a mastectomy isn't always the best option. They showed that the survival rate had almost no difference whether the patient had a mastectomy or kept their breast. This study will let women make the decision on what they think is more important since keeping the breast and the mastectomy are both equally effective.

SRU Volleyball goes to IUP

I'm on the SRU volleyball team and we took a trip to IUP on Saturday for a tournament. There were 11 teams there including us. St. Vincent College and AB University were in our pool. We beat St. Vincent 3 games and AB 2 games to make us the top of our pool. We got to go to the top bracket where it became single elimination and we played the best of three games. We played Clarion University our first match but lost in two games to be eliminated. All-in-all though it was a very good tournament for our team.
